A great way to deal with the question of the purpose of life and the Universe, in the supposition of the absence of a definitive or suggestive goal, would be to ask a question, this question:
Given everything we know, (and new things we learn) about life and the Universe, what would be a most rational function for Life and the Universe in your assessment?
I assess that the Universe seems to be something of a Sandbox that runs scenarios to help observers understand its operational modes.
Observers from both within and possibly outside of it, in a bid, to design and run a perfect scenario.
Perhaps a better question might be, what the purpose of that assumed perfect dimension (timeless, thermodynamically inconsequential etc.) might be.
